On November 7, 2000, the voters of Broward County overwhelmingly approved the concept of single-member districts and the addition of two new districts in order for your County Government to reflect the demographics of our communities. It seems like only yesterday when I began my campaign for the newly configured County Commission District 8, which the new census figures confirm is the MOST DIVERSE district in Broward County. After three successful Countywide elections to the Broward County School Board, I thought I had developed the experience necessary to run for a fourth time. The challenge of running in a district election was most rewarding in that it brought me closer to the constituents, communities and neighborhoods whom I would represent. I knocked on doors and walked every afternoon, and weekends, to get to know as many people as possible. I thank all of you who opened your doors to greet me, ask me about my philosophy, my goals and shared your ideas with me. Prior to my first School Board election in 1988, I served as a Commissioner for the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners from 1984-1988. I would like to thank the residents of Broward County for having given me the opportunity to serve you for the last seventeen years. Your repeated votes of confidence in my ability to do a good job and your respect and support mean the world to me. Based on my proven record of achievements on your behalf, I respectfully ask you to place your trust in me, once again, as my reelection campaign, for November of 2002, is launched. I promise to continue to advocate for the needs of the residents of District 8, in a well informed, fair and inclusive, manner. Together, we can make our communities better places in which to live, work and raise our families. Thank you,
