TAO FINALLY COMES TO SUNRISE

TAO; noun. The rational basis of human activity or conduct. (so defined on dictionary.com)

It's different in Sunrise, where TAO is defined as twin 26 story towers looking down on the roof of Sawgrass Mills Mall.

Twenty Six unoccupied stories.

The largest Sunrise boondoggle. Larger even than the tangled construction project to build the Civic Center fifteen years ago.

For all intents and purposes, this project was Pat Salerno's ultimate dream. His "high rent" district that would attract the high rollers in Broward. Lawyers, Doctors, Financiers and more.

But... It didn't quite do that.

After all, the county's high rollers can look down on the Intracostal waterway, or the Atlantic Ocean, even both.

They can look down on Las Olas, or even the Riverfront. So what in the world would attract these folks to a magnificent view of the roof of Sawgrass Mall?

And so, Salerno's dream is in shambles where $449,000 apartments can't be sold at half the price.

We need some ideas to solve the problem. Here are some of mine:

Demolish the buildings and convert the land into another park.

Sell the property to the Federal Government and use the apartments to house Sunrise residents who've been foreclosed.

Sell the property to the County and convert it into a new Courthouse complex.

And here's the one that I like: Covert the property to section 8 residences and rename the property to Salerno Village.
